Adjustments & Relines

Over time, your dentures may require relines or modifications due to dental work or natural changes to your gum formation. At Port Denture Clinic, we offer denture relines, modifications and other procedures for patients in Port Macquarie. If you notice that your dentures no longer fit comfortably, or if they start to look worn out, it’s important to come and see us as soon as possible.

A reline is a process in which a plastic material is used to reshape the inside of your dentures, ensuring they fit correctly and comfortably. Modifications are changes made to the shape or size of your dentures that improve their appearance or function while maintaining a more natural look.

How It Works

Relining is a maintenance procedure that involves restoring any worn or damaged portion of your denture. Over time, your jawbone will shrink where your natural teeth are missing. You may lose 40-60 per cent of your jawbone within the first three years following teeth removal. You may also require relining after losing weight or following jaw surgery.

Although it may seem unnecessary, it is vital to complete the procedure several times throughout your denture's lifespan. Without relining, you run the risk of damaging your teeth and gums as well as compromising your overall oral health.

Our prosthetists will take an imprint of your mouth using a soft, pliable material. From there, we will examine the imprint and make any required adjustments. Our technicians will then create a customised relining material to fit your denture and mouth.
